His research focuses on the aetiology and management of sleep disturbance, its interactions with mental health, and implications for neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders. He investigates interventions like sleep restriction therapy and digital cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for insomnia, with work spanning clinical trials, neuroimaging, and population health studies.
Recent publications highlight trends in sleep disorders (insomnia, circadian disruption), neurology (white matter integrity), and mental health (depression, emotion regulation). His team employs genome-wide association studies (GWAS), randomized controlled trials, and neuroimaging to advance sleep medicine.
Research funding is provided by the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre, Wellcome Trust, and UK government programmes (HTA, PGfAR, EME).
Professor Kyle leads the Experimental and Clinical Sleep Medicine research group, contributing to clinical guidelines like the European Insomnia Guideline 2023.
