Professor Simon Jackson is Professor of Environment and Human Health at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Plymouth. He founded Molendotech Ltd, serving as Chief Scientific Officer. His research bridges infection biology and environmental science.
Key research areas:
- Bioaerosol health impacts and exposure assessment
- Endotoxin as a biomarker for water contamination
- Macrophage inflammatory responses (LPCAT2/TLR4 pathways)
- Air pollution effects on mental health
- Development of environmental biosensors
Publication analysis (2022-2025) shows strong focus on endotoxin detection methodologies, bioaerosol health risks, macrophage immunology, and interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges. Recent work advances real-time water monitoring and climate-health interconnections.
Teaching covers sepsis, immunopathology, and industry engagement. Supervised 31 PhD students, 2 MD candidates, and 14 MSc students. Extensive industry collaborations through Molendotech.
Laboratory develops novel detection platforms for environmental pathogens and endotoxins. Current projects include climate change impacts on bioaerosol distribution and mental health consequences of air pollution.
