Dr. Peter Jackson is a Professor in the Department of Geography, Earth, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Northern British Columbia, recognized as a Fellow of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society. His research examines atmospheric processes in complex terrain, focusing on wind patterns, air quality, and pollutant dispersion.
His core research expertise includes:
- Mesoscale meteorology in coastal and mountainous regions
- Air quality modeling and monitoring techniques
- Atmospheric pollutant dispersion mechanisms
- Satellite-based emission detection
- Climate effects of large reservoirs
Dr. Jackson's publications demonstrate consistent methodological innovation in atmospheric modeling, particularly with WRF and CMAQ systems. Recent work emphasizes air quality assessment in pristine environments and climate interactions with energy infrastructure.
He supervises PhD and MSc students in Geography and Environmental Science, and maintains an active research program through the cyclone.unbc.ca research group.
