Simon Halliday is an Associate Research Professor and Associate Director at the Center for Economy and Society (CES) within the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University. He co-leads the new BA in Moral and Political Economy major and is actively involved in advancing research and pedagogy in behavioral and experimental economics.
His research focuses on social preferences, including reciprocity and social norms, and the role of institutions such as ratings, punishment, and communication in shaping economic behavior. He is also a leader in economics education reform.
Dr. Halliday co-authored the intermediate microeconomics textbook Microeconomics: Competition, Conflict, and Coordination (OUP, 2022) with Samuel Bowles and leads the enCOREage Project, which is developing a new introductory textbook, Understanding the Economy, designed to enhance student engagement, belonging, inclusion, and employability skills by connecting economic concepts to real-world societal challenges.
He is currently a faculty affiliate at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University (2023–2025), reflecting his national scholarly recognition.
