Simon Halliday is Professor of Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Strathclyde's Law School (since 2023). Previously, he held roles at York Law School (2011-2023) and the University of Oxford (2000-2005). He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (since 2015) and co-founded the Administrative Fairness Lab with Joe Tomlinson and Jed Meers.
His research focuses on administrative justice (street-level decision-making, procedural fairness) and legal culture (legal consciousness, law's role in everyday life). Notable projects include studies on digital welfare systems, climate adaptation, and pandemic governance.
He leads multiple funded projects, including 'Administrative Fairness in Social Care Needs Assessment' (2024-2026) and 'Debt by Design: Universal Credit, Deductions and Administrative Justice' (2023-2026). His work bridges legal theory with empirical analysis of social policy impacts.
