Dr Simon Egan is a Lecturer in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on the history and culture of the Gaelic world (Ireland, Scotland, Isle of Man) from c.1100-c.1600, emphasizing interactions with English/Scottish monarchies during events like the Hundred Years War and Tudor period. He teaches modules such as War, Politics, and Identity in Late Medieval Ireland and Kingship and Colonisation in Medieval Ireland.
Education:
- BA in History and Modern Irish, University College Cork (2011)
- PhD in History, University College Cork (2016)
Research Interests: Gaelic lordship, medieval political dynamics, North Atlantic networks, and interdisciplinary cultural analysis using Irish/Latin sources. Current projects include studies on Gaelic-Scottish relations and the role of the medieval church in Ulster.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Sounding Conflict research group and participates in international medieval studies networks.
