Simon Critchley

Simon Critchley is the Hans Jonas Professor of Philosophy at The New School for Social Research and Director of the Onassis Foundation. He specializes in continental philosophy, philosophy and literature, psychoanalysis, ethics, and political theory. His work bridges academic and public discourse, evident in his co-editing of The Stone column in The New York Times.

PhD in Philosophy, University of Essex (1988).

Research Interests:

Critchley’s interdisciplinary focus spans existentialism, cultural critique, and the intersections of philosophy with art, literature, and popular culture. He explores themes such as Greek tragedy, suicide, and the philosophy of sport, blending academic rigor with accessible writing.
