Simon Chadwick serves as Senior University Teacher and Architecture Programmes Leader at the University of Sheffield's School of Architecture and Landscape, bringing over twenty years of teaching experience and professional practice as a RIBA/ARB-registered architect. Previously holding roles including Deputy Head of School and Undergraduate Programme Director, he represents Sheffield at SCOSA and serves on RIBA validation panels.
His educational background features a degree from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching from University of the Arts London, complemented by Senior Fellowship in the Higher Education Academy.
Chadwick's research focuses on architectural pedagogy innovation, pioneering digital assessment methods that celebrate hand-crafted design processes while cultivating collaborative studio environments. He leads the school's climate emergency response through the 'Towards Zero Carbon Lecture Series' and develops sustainable building integration strategies across curricula. As a founding member of the SSoA Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Committee, he champions LGBTQ+ inclusion in architectural education via initiatives like the 'LGBT Live' student project mentoring toolkit for Sheffield's youth communities. His work extends to urban conservation activism, notably securing Grade II listing for Sheffield's 1963 John Lewis building.
Professionally active as director of StateStudioLtd, Chadwick serves on the RIBA Bronze Medal 2024 judging panel and Sheffield Design Awards committee while maintaining leadership roles in QuEAN and the Association of Architectural Educators. His external examiner appointments span Newcastle, Portsmouth, and Bartlett UCL institutions, reflecting significant influence in architectural education standards.
