Simon Bågstam is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Malmstens Linköping University, part of the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI). He teaches furniture design and digital tools, emphasizing the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. Bågstam holds a Bachelor’s in Furniture Design from Malmstens (2022), a Master’s in Spatial Design at Konstfack (2019–2024), and a background in traditional boatbuilding from Storebro Båtbyggarskola (2002–2005).
His research interests focus on sustainable materials, wood technology, and innovative design processes. Notable projects include the Essing lounge chair (inspired by boatbuilding techniques) and the Mini Town award-winning design. He runs a fully equipped Stockholm-based workshop for prototyping and collaborates with IKEA of Sweden.
