Dr Simon Boxley is a Senior Lecturer in Education and Head of the Cluster for Climate Change Action and Education at the University of Winchester. His work focuses on Marxist, ecosocialist, and ecosophical perspectives in education, particularly addressing climate change policy and practice. He also studies 'race' and ethnicity in the UK educational context. His research integrates process philosophy, deep ecology, and critical pedagogy to propose transformative educational frameworks. Recent work includes exploring Eco-Leninist education models and climate resilience strategies in Arctic regions. He actively participates in global conferences and authored the 2017 book Schooling and Value: Marxist Essays in Education.
Research Interests: Simon’s current research emphasizes Red Biocentrism theory applied to climate education, Marxist conceptions of schooling, and Krishnamurti pedagogy. He critiques capitalist educational policies and advocates for systemic reforms rooted in ecological justice. His interdisciplinary approach bridges philosophy, sociology, and environmental science, with a focus on anti-oppressive educational practices.
Key Contributions: Co-authored the Mainstreaming Climate Education in Higher Education Institutions (2021) COP26 working paper and led the 2015 Another Learning is Possible conference with Brockwood Park School. His 2024 article Climate lessons from the cold edge proposes rethinking universities as ethical ecological systems.
