Dr. Simon Bond is an Adjunct Research Associate at Monash University, affiliated with the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. He holds a BSc (Honours) in Biomedicine from Deakin University and a PhD in Metabolism from the Metabolic Research Unit at Deakin University. His research focuses on tissue-specific drug delivery, metabolic mechanisms underlying insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Key areas include molecular pathways in metabolic tissues and their dysfunction in disease. Bond has published in high-impact journals such as Nature Communications and Cell Reports.
His work explores how metabolic enzymes’ acetylation regulates activity in diabetes and obesity, as well as the role of genetic and epigenetic factors in metabolic disorders. Collaborations span cardiovascular biology, neurology, and proteomics. No specific awards are mentioned, but his contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals targeting health and well-being (Goal 3).
Research activities include postdoctoral studies at the Molecular Metabolism and Ageing Laboratory, with projects on amyloid beta effects in cardiac metabolism and estrogen receptor impacts on obesity. His lab investigates extracellular vesicles and mitochondrial dysfunction in disease contexts.
