Dr. Simon Black is an Associate Professor in Labour Studies at Brock University. He holds a PhD in Political Science from York University, an MA in Labour Studies from McMaster University, and a BA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Toronto. His research focuses on the political economy of work, care, and resistance, particularly in domestic work sectors. He is affiliated with the Canada-Caribbean Institute, exploring intersections between Caribbean and Canadian labour dynamics. Key research areas include feminist political economy, union renewal, and alternative labour movements.
Black’s work examines neoliberal restructuring in child care and domestic work, emphasizing community-labour coalitions and participatory approaches to labour standards. His book *Social Reproduction and the City* analyzes welfare reform in New York, while recent studies highlight Jamaican domestic workers’ unionization and global south labour rights. He contributes to policy debates on decent work and has produced a documentary on social movements.
