Simon Bending is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Bath. He holds affiliations with multiple research centers including the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Condensed Matter Physics, and the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. from Stanford University (1985), postdoctoral research at Max Planck Institut FKF and IBM Zurich Laboratories, and a BA Hons from Cambridge University (1979).
His research focuses on nanoscale magnetic phenomena in superconductors and ferromagnetic materials, employing cutting-edge Hall probe magnetic imaging and nanomagnetometry systems. Key areas include vortex dynamics in superconductors, magnetic domain structures in ferromagnetic multilayers, and correlated electron phenomena in 2D materials. Research specialties span superconductivity, spintronics, graphene applications, and scanning probe microscopy.
Dr. Bending leads significant projects such as 'Magnetic Metasurfaces for Sustainable Information and Communication' (EPSRC) and 'Intrinsic Pinning in Magnetic Iron-Based Superconductors.'
