Silvia Rossbach

Silvia Rossbach is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University. Her research focuses on microbial genetics, microbial ecology, and plant-bacteria interactions, with an emphasis on nitrogen fixation, bioremediation of polluted environments, and soil bacteria's interaction with heavy metals. She previously held a postdoctoral position at Michigan State University's Center for Microbial Ecology and Plant Research Laboratory.

Her work integrates microbiology with geophysics, exploring how microbial communities influence environmental processes like hydrocarbon degradation and magnetic susceptibility changes in contaminated sites.
