Silvia Prina is a Professor of Economics at Northeastern University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities. She holds a PhD from Boston University and has held prior roles at Case Western Reserve University and the InterAmerican Development Bank. Her research focuses on development economics, particularly financial access, networks, and health interventions. She employs randomized controlled trials in Mexico, Latin America, Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda, and the U.S. to study poverty reduction strategies. Key areas include digital credit, savings behavior, and spillover effects in economic decisions. She serves as Co-Editor of Labour Economics, an Associate Editor of Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and holds affiliations with J-PAL, IPA, and IZA. Her work bridges empirical rigor with policy design to address global development challenges.
Education: PhD in Economics, Boston University (2007). Research interests include behavioral economics, cash transfers, program evaluation, and social norms. Notable contributions explore the impact of financial tools on poor households' welfare and decision-making. Recent projects address digital credit dynamics, peer effects in health interventions, and racial bias in labor markets. She co-authored influential studies on savings accounts' impact and the unintended consequences of incentive programs.
