Silvia Nappini

Silvia Nappini is a Researcher at the Institute of Materials (IOM) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) in Trieste, serving on the staff of the CNR Beamline BACH at the Elettra synchrotron facility since 2012.

She holds a Master's degree and PhD in Chemical Science, complemented by a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Center for Colloid and Surface Science (CSGI) and the University of Florence.

Her research centers on advanced materials characterization using synchrotron radiation techniques, particularly X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Key areas include the growth and structural analysis of 2D materials (Graphene and h-BN/Gr heterostructures), thin-film deposition of organic molecules and nanoparticles, and in-situ/in-operando studies of catalytic reactions at solid/liquid interfaces using custom electrochemical micro-cells. She also investigates electron dynamics in photovoltaic materials and fundamental processes in electrochemistry and photochemistry.

Dr. Nappini operates primarily at the BACH beamline, which delivers EUV-soft x-rays (44–1650 eV) with tunable polarization for multi-technique analysis of electronic, chemical, and structural properties. Her international collaborations include work with the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP) and Advanced Light Source (ALS) scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab during research visits in 2015 and 2017.
