Prof. Silvia Giordani is a Full Professor and Chair of Nanomaterials at Dublin City University's School of Chemical Sciences, and a Principal Investigator at DCU's Life Sciences Institute. She holds additional roles as a reviewer/editor for journals like Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology and ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. Her research focuses on designing hybrid nanomaterials for biomedical, energy, and environmental applications, leveraging expertise in organic chemistry, materials engineering, and biology.
Giordani earned her PhD from the University of Miami and completed postdoctoral work at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Trieste. Notable awards include the President of Ireland Young Researcher Award (2007) and the MAK’IT Fellowship (2024). She has advised over 50 students and published extensively, with over 160 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Nature Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials.
Her work emphasizes carbon-based nanomaterials (e.g., nano-onions) for targeted drug delivery, bioimaging, and toxicity assessment. Collaborations include institutions like the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia and the University of Turin. Giordani also engages in outreach, mentoring at schools and science festivals.
Recent projects include ENACT (engineering nanomaterials for cancer therapy) and Modulation Of Carbon Nanoparticles for pAncReatic Cancer tHerapy. Her lab explores multifunctional nanocarriers, biodegradable systems, and sustainable nanotechnology solutions.
