Dr. Silvia Casini is a Senior Lecturer in Film and Visual Culture at the University of Aberdeen, UK. She teaches interdisciplinary courses on the visual culture of science and medicine, bridging humanities and life sciences. She is also an affiliated scholar with the Pa.S.T.I.S. research unit at the University of Padua, Italy.

Her research explores the aesthetic, epistemological, and societal dimensions of scientific data visualization, particularly in emerging technologies. She has authored works on magnetic resonance imaging, scientific cinema, and multisensory pedagogy. Her curatorial projects include Marc Didou (Queen’s Gallery), From Where Do We See? (Aberdeen) and Cities of the Future (Venice), focusing on art-science collaborations in museums, labs, and urban environments.
Recent publications examine scientific film festivals, animated medical imaging, and contagion narratives in visual media. Her work has been supported by grants from the Leverhulme Trust, AHRC, and Carnegie Trust.
