Associate Professor Silvana Fužinato is a distinguished biblical theologian at the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Đakovo, part of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek. A member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, she has served as Prodean for Teaching and Students (2018-2019), Chair of the Department of New Testament Scripture (2018-2020), and Chair of the Department of Old and New Testament Scripture (2020-2024). Dr. Fužinato earned her doctorate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (2014), following master's studies there (2011) and philosophical-theological studies at the Theology Department in Rijeka (2008). Her educational journey began with primary school in Prnjavor near Banja Luka (1988-1996) and the Women's General Gymnasium of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy in Zagreb (1996-2000).
Her research focuses on biblical theology through a communication perspective, with particular expertise in Johannine literature, biblical anthropology, and the interpretation of New Testament texts. She explores how biblical narratives shape readers' understanding of faith, relationships, and the divine-human encounter. Her work bridges traditional exegesis with contemporary communication theory, examining how biblical texts function as communicative events that transform readers.
Her extensive publication record reveals consistent focus on the Gospel of John, with recurring themes of encounter, dialogue, and transformation. She examines biblical figures as models for contemporary faith, particularly exploring women's roles in salvation history and the dynamics of human relationships in light of divine revelation. Her recent work increasingly addresses communication in biblical interpretation and the relevance of biblical wisdom for contemporary challenges.
