Silpa Mukherjee is an Assistant Professor of Film and Media, Global South, and Cultural Studies at the University of California San Diego. Her work focuses on feminist historiography, informal media industries, and transregional media flows between South Asia and the Middle East. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Her current research examines cinema as contraband, analyzing illicit transregional media corridors that intersect with global capital and legal boundaries. Supported by grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the American Council of Learned Societies, her work bridges media studies with postcolonial theory.
