Silje Maria Tellmann is an Associate Professor in Sociology at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), affiliated with the School of Business and the Department of Business, History, and Social Sciences. She holds an additional role as an Associate Professor II (20%) at the TIK Centre for Technology, Innovation, and Culture (University of Oslo) as part of the OSIRIS research group. Her academic background includes a PhD from the Centre for the Study of the Professions at OsloMet and a Cand.polit in Sociology from the University of Oslo.
Her research focuses on the interplay between academia and society, particularly how scientific expertise influences policy-making, trust in science, and the societal impact of research. Key themes include climate policy, researchers' roles in governmental advisory committees, organizational knowledge use in public administration, and science communication strategies. She has also explored trade unions, higher education structures, and evaluations of research impact.
Recent publications highlight her work on research communication's role in scientific legitimacy, challenges in reporting societal impacts for sociology, and boundary-crossing interactions between science and policy.
