Dr. Siddhartha Kar is a University Associate Professor of Genetic Epidemiology for Cancer Development at the University of Cambridge, where he leads a research group at the Early Cancer Institute in the Department of Oncology. He holds a UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship and returned to Cambridge in March 2023 after establishing his research group at the University of Bristol.
His research focuses on:
- Germline-somatic interactions in cancer development
- Clonal haematopoiesis genetics
- Pleiotropic risk factors for hormone-related cancers
- Multi-cancer risk prediction models
His publication portfolio demonstrates extensive work in cancer GWAS, Mendelian randomization, and genetic risk mapping, with recent emphasis on cross-cancer pleiotropy and clonal hematopoiesis.

- Junior Research Fellowship, Homerton College, Cambridge (2015-2019)
- UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship (2020-present)
As Director of Postgraduate Education for Oncology, he lectures on multiple programs including the MPhil in Population Health Sciences and MSt in Genomic Medicine. His research is funded by Cancer Research UK, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Blood Cancer UK, and NIH grants.
He leads the Kar Group at the Early Cancer Institute, focusing on genetic epidemiology approaches to cancer prevention.
