Siddharth Banka is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Evolution, Infection and Genomics at the University of Manchester and a Consultant Clinical Geneticist at the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine (Manchester University NHS Trust). His research focuses on improving diagnosis, management, and treatment of rare genetic disorders through genomic and functional studies. He leads initiatives such as the Manchester Rare Conditions Centre, aiming to enhance clinical care, research, education, and advocacy for individuals with rare diseases. His work spans chromatinopathies, inborn errors of metabolism, and advanced diagnostics using DNA methylation arrays.
- Education: MBBS from Lokmanya Tilak Medical College (University of Mumbai, 2002), PhD from University of Manchester (2012), CCST in Clinical Genetics (UK).
Research interests include identifying novel genetic disorders, understanding disease mechanisms through model systems (e.g., iPSCs, zebrafish), and developing clinical guidelines. Key contributions include discoveries in disorders like Kabuki syndrome and TET3-related Beck-Fahrner syndrome. He collaborates internationally and leads projects funded by MRC, NIHR, and others.
