Siddappa Byrareddy

Siddappa Byrareddy, PhD, is Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He holds affiliations with the Nebraska Center for Virology, Nebraska Center for Substance Abuse Research, Nebraska Food for Health Center, and Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

Education includes a PhD in HIV molecular virology/pathogenesis from the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (2007).

Research focuses on HIV pathogenesis, antiviral therapeutics, neuroimmune pharmacology, substance abuse mechanisms, and gut-brain axis interactions. His work bridges virology, immunology, and neuroscience to develop innovative treatments for infectious diseases and addiction disorders.

Awards and honors include the Wybran Award (highest honor in neuroimmune pharmacology), multiple Distinguished Scientist recognitions, and top-cited COVID-19 research. He actively mentors trainees, with mentees receiving Early Career Investigator awards.

Leads an active research laboratory at UNMC's Durham Research Center investigating HIV reservoirs, immunotherapy, and substance abuse comorbidities. Completed leadership training through UNMC's iLEAD program (2017).
