Prof. Dr. med. Sibylle Maria Winter serves as Deputy Director of the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and holds a University Professorship for Trauma Consequences and Child Protection. She is also an Associate Member of the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM) at Humboldt University. Her leadership roles include heading the interdisciplinary child protection group, the child protection and trauma outpatient clinic, and the Childhood House Berlin.
Her research focuses on biological embedding mechanisms of trauma, transgenerational violence transmission, and preventive interventions. Key projects include BMBF-funded studies (B-LCS, Kids2Health) on reversibility of biological changes, UBICA I/II on violence prevention, and Innovation Fund initiatives (Care-Fam-Net, CHIMPs-Net) for families with chronically ill children or mentally ill parents. Her publication record demonstrates expertise across child maltreatment impacts, refugee mental health, somatoform disorders, and family-based interventions.
Her recent publications reveal strong emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches connecting psychiatry, public health, and migration studies. Work spans clinical trials, diagnostic validation, and neurobiological investigations of trauma. Major themes include early intervention strategies, cultural adaptations of mental health services, and systemic approaches to child protection.
Prof. Winter leads multiple clinical units including the Research Department of Trauma Consequences and Child Protection, the Childhood House Berlin, and serves on the board of the Weiterbildungskreis für die tiefenpsychologische Psychotherapie in der Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie. Her work integrates clinical practice, research, and policy development in child protection systems.
