Dr. Sibylla Tringham is Lecturer in Conservation of Wall Paintings at The Courtauld Institute of Art, where she supervises international conservation projects in Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Georgia, and India. Her expertise includes conservation of paintings and plaster, environmental deterioration mechanisms, and imaging techniques.
Research addresses consolidation of degraded materials, passive environmental control methods, and geometric representation in art conservation. Field projects include significant work at Nagaur Fort (India) and St John’s Co-Cathedral (Malta).
Publications demonstrate long-term engagement with conservation challenges including salt damage, biodeterioration, and climate control in heritage contexts. Recent work examines conservation ethics and authenticity preservation approaches.
As Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation, she contributes to advancing conservation science through publications and international projects. Current work includes developing non-contact monitoring techniques for detecting change in wall paintings.
