Dr. Sian Alsop is an Assistant Professor in the Centre for Global Learning at Coventry University and holds an adjunct position at the University of Luxembourg. Her research focuses on equity, attainment, and the application of corpus linguistics to educational contexts. She leads projects such as the Teacher Choices initiative, developing vocabulary acquisition measures, and the Access to Attainment project analyzing higher education outcomes. Her work also includes language analysis for the CILIP Carnegie Awards Diversity Review and feedback corpus development to study attainment links.
Education: PhD in Engineering Lecture Corpus Analysis (2016, Coventry University).
Research Themes: Academic writing, language in lectures, computational methods, and EDI (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion) in education. She explores how language structures impact student success through large-scale corpus studies, aiming to inform pedagogical practices.
Her projects address SDG 4 (Quality Education), focusing on equitable learning opportunities. Recent work includes collaborations on EME (English-Medium Education) challenges in Chinese universities and teacher CPD needs. She has supervised 15+ PhD students (3 completed) and teaches core modules like 'Reviewing Literature' in doctoral programs.
