Dr. Si On Yoon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2016) and previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa (2019–2023). Her research employs a cognitive science framework to investigate language processes, focusing on how social-pragmatic cues and memory representations shape conversational dynamics. Notably, she explores how these mechanisms develop and vary across populations, including those with neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Her work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Research Interests:
- Cognitive mechanisms underlying natural conversation
- Social-pragmatic information processing in language
- Memory’s role in language production/comprehension
- Developmental and clinical variations in conversational ability
Her articles reflect interdisciplinary themes in epigenetics, oncology, and metabolic disorders, with recent work emphasizing vitamin-driven epigenetic modulation and cancer therapies. NIH funding supports her exploration of these topics. No specific awards are listed, though her research demonstrates sustained institutional support. Advising and grants include NIH-funded projects, while her academic journey spans multiple institutions, reflecting a commitment to advancing interdisciplinary science in communicative disorders and beyond.
