Shuyuan Huang, PhD, MPH, RN, is an Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her work integrates chronic disease prevention, maternal health, and minority health, with a focus on postpartum Chinese immigrants at risk for type 2 diabetes due to prior gestational diabetes. She leverages mHealth technology to design culturally sensitive physical activity and lifestyle interventions.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Nursing from Yale School of Nursing (2022), an MPH in Behavioral Science and Health Education from Emory University (2013), an MSN from Central South University (2016), and a BSN from Xi’an Jiaotong University (2010).
Huang’s research centers on understanding and improving physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep, and cardiometabolic risk in high-risk immigrant populations. She employs objective measurement tools like accelerometers and develops interventions grounded in behavioral science. Her work is supported by NIH/NIMHD and the Heilbrunn Nurse Scholar Award. She is also a certified lifestyle coach for the CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program.
The trends in her recent publications reveal a strong commitment to health equity, methodological rigor in studying hard-to-reach populations, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her work spans maternal mental health, food insecurity, oncology survivorship, and HIV disclosure, consistently emphasizing culturally appropriate, evidence-based interventions.

Huang has been principal or co-investigator on multiple funded research projects, including a study on 24-hour activity and cardiometabolic health in Chinese American women with prior gestational diabetes. She mentors students and collaborates widely across institutions. Though specific advisees are not listed, her role as a faculty fellow and principal investigator indicates active supervision and team leadership. She is a member of the American Diabetes Association, Eastern Nursing Research Society, Society of Behavioral Medicine, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Her active research lab focuses on developing and testing digital and community-based interventions to reduce cardiometabolic risk in immigrant women, with ongoing work on recruitment strategies, adherence, and multicontextual barriers to healthy lifestyles.
