Dr. Shuting Liu is an Assistant Professor at Kean University's Department of Environmental and Sustainability Sciences within the Dorothy and George Hennings College of Science, Mathematics and Technology. With a Ph.D. in Marine Science from The University of Texas at Austin, she specializes in organic geochemistry and microbial oceanography.
- Ph.D.: The University of Texas at Austin (2016)
- B.S.: Nanjing University (Environmental Science)
Research Focus: Dr. Liu's work examines microbial degradation of dissolved organic matter in seawater, focusing on carbon/nitrogen cycles and marine ecosystem dynamics. Current projects include water quality assessment and algae-bacteria interactions in New Jersey coastal waters.
Methodology: Combines field research (e.g., Gulf of Mexico, North Atlantic) with lab analysis using HPLC, mass spectrometry, and molecular techniques. She has participated in multiple oceanographic cruises and mentors students at undergraduate, graduate, and high-school levels.
