Shushmita Ahmed is a Casual Academic at the Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where she is pursuing her PhD. She holds a judicial position as Senior Assistant Judge (Attached Officer) in the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Bangladesh, on education leave since 2020. Her expertise spans maritime and environmental law, with a focus on legal frameworks for sustainable marine ecosystems in areas beyond national jurisdiction.

Her research interests include Law of the Sea, Ocean Governance, and Climate Change Law. She has participated in specialized programs such as the IOI Summer School on Ocean Governance and the Summer Academy on the Continental Shelf, reflecting her commitment to advancing international legal frameworks for marine sustainability.
Shushmita has held teaching roles at BGC Trust University Bangladesh (2013–2014) and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Noakhali Science and Technology University (2024). Her judicial career (2014–present) includes adjudicating civil and criminal cases, with a focus on alternative dispute resolution and mediation in Feni, Bangladesh.
She is fluent in English and Bengali and actively contributes to legal research and education.
