Shuoshuo Han is a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for Geophysics, Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on subduction zone structure, tectonic processes, and associated hazards, with emphasis on the Cascadia and Hikurangi margins. She integrates active-source seismic data, ocean drilling records, and physical property analysis to study sediment consolidation, hydration states, and in-situ stress conditions in subduction zones.
Key expertise includes seismic imaging of megathrust fault properties, forearc basin evolution, and the interplay between subducting seamounts and slow slip events. Her work contributes to understanding earthquake and tsunami hazards in subduction zones.
Recent projects include the CAscadia Seismic Imaging Experiment 2021 (CASIE21), which provided unprecedented insights into Cascadia margin structure and megathrust behavior. Collaborative efforts span international datasets, including the Hikurangi subduction zone in New Zealand and the Middle America Trench offshore Mexico.
Publications emphasize structural segmentation of subduction zones, fluid migration pathways, and the role of sediment properties in controlling seismic slip behavior. Her research bridges geophysical imaging with tectonic and geohazard modeling.
