Dr. Shunpu Zhang is a Professor in the Department of Statistics & Data Science at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He served as Department Chair from 2015 to 2025, during which he pioneered Florida’s first Ph.D. program in Big Data Analytics, multiple joint M.S. programs, and a collaborative B.S. in data science across departments.
His research spans statistical methodology, Bayesian analysis, bioinformatics, financial optimization, and big data analytics. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he contributed to cancer surveillance tools like the CI*Rank website.
Dr. Zhang earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Alberta, Canada, and has focused his career on advancing statistical techniques for public health and data science education.
