Professor Nan Lin is a Professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Washington University in St. Louis, with a joint appointment in the Division of Biostatistics at the School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Master's Programs in Statistics & Data Science. His research bridges methodological innovations in big data analytics, Bayesian quantile regression, and bioinformatics, alongside applications in anesthesiology and genomics. He teaches advanced courses including mathematical statistics, Bayesian methods, linear models, and statistical computation.
Education: B.S. from the Special Class for Gifted Young at University of Science and Technology of China (1999); M.S. in Statistics and a second M.S. in Finance (2000, 2003), and Ph.D. in Statistics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2003). Postdoctoral training at Yale University's Center for Statistical Genomics and Proteomics (2003–2004).
Research focuses on statistical computing for massive datasets, longitudinal/functional data analysis, and psychometrics. Recognitions include the 2007 Outstanding Mentor Award and a 2016 honor for impactful Bayesian research. His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations in healthcare and genomic data analysis.
