Shun-chen Niu is a Professor of Operations Research at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the Naveen Jindal School of Management. He has held continuous faculty positions since 1980, including roles as Professor (1991–present), Associate Professor (1982–1991), and Assistant Professor (1980–1982). His research focuses on applied probability models, stochastic processes, queueing theory, and new-product diffusion. He has made significant contributions to polling models and stochastic scheduling.

Research Interests:
- Polling models in queueing theory, emphasizing decomposition methods for system analysis.
- Stochastic models for new-product diffusion, extending the Bass model to stochastic frameworks.
- Applications in flexible manufacturing, computer networks, and traffic control.
Awards:
- Winner of the Halliburton Award for Teaching Excellence (1990).
Teaching & Service:
- Developed extensive online course materials for Operations Research and taught both undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Served as Area Coordinator for Operations Research and on multiple university-wide committees.
- Chair of over 10 Ph.D. dissertation committees and member of numerous others.
