Shun Kaku is a Professor at Waseda University's School of Law, with prior roles as Associate Professor at Hokkaido University and visiting positions at the Max Planck Institute and University of Cambridge. He holds a Master of Law from the University of Tokyo and has contributed extensively to legal philosophy, international law, and global justice.
- Education: Doctoral studies at the University of Tokyo (Law and Politics), Master's in Law (University of Tokyo), and undergraduate in Law (University of Tokyo).
Research Interests: Kaku explores the legitimacy of international law, legal pluralism, global justice, and the interplay between constitutional democracies and transnational legal systems. His work addresses challenges in reconciling state sovereignty with global governance and the moral foundations of international legal orders.
Scientific Awards: Recipient of the JALP Prize (2024) and Special Research Fellowship (Humboldt Foundation, 2016). His publications span journals like Yearbook of World Law and edited volumes, including Reclaiming Philosophy of International Law (2022).
