Shulamit Shinnar is an Assistant Professor of Religion at Florida State University, affiliated with the Department of Religion in the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2019). Her research focuses on ancient Jewish culture and rabbinic literature, particularly the intersection of medicine, body politics, and communal identity in the ancient Mediterranean world. Current work includes a monograph titled *The Best of Doctors Go to Hell: Rabbinic Medical Culture in Late Antiquity*, exploring how rabbinic conceptions of health, illness, and healing shaped religious communities (1st–6th centuries CE).
Her interdisciplinary approach integrates history of science, medical anthropology, post-colonial theory, and disability studies. Research has been supported by fellowships from McGill University and Columbia University. Teaching expertise spans ancient Mediterranean religions, Jewish Studies, and comparative topics in religion/gender, medicine, and disability.
