Yaron Eliav is Associate Professor of Rabbinic Literature and Jewish History of Late Antiquity at the University of Michigan. His interdisciplinary research combines Talmudic texts, archaeology, and classical literature.
Education:
- Ph.D., Ancient Judaism and Archaeology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1999)
- Postdoctoral studies: Fulbright Fellowship (Princeton), Dorot Fellowship (NYU)
Research examines Jewish-Graeco-Roman cultural encounters in the Roman Mediterranean. Award-winning publications include 'God's Mountain: The Temple Mount in Time, Space, and Memory' which received the AAP Award and Salo Baron Prize.
His documentary film 'Paul in Athens' revolutionizes pedagogy about the ancient world. Current projects include archaeological investigations of rabbinic history.
