Shujuan Li is a Professor in the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning at the University of Arizona, where she leads research integrating spatial analysis, GIS, and ecological principles for urban sustainability. Previously, she served eight years at Utah State University's Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning.
Her academic credentials include a PhD in Geography from Texas A&M University (2009), a Master’s in Ecology from Peking University, and a Bachelor’s in Geography from Beijing Normal University.
Dr. Li's research spans landscape ecology, geodesign, and land-use dynamics, with emphasis on GIS-driven spatial modeling for pandemic-era park systems, urban heat mitigation, and water-smart planning in arid regions. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks like Ian McHarg's ecological wisdom with practical applications in community resilience.
Analysis of her 2016-2023 publications reveals dominant themes: urban park performance assessment using big data, green infrastructure innovation (e.g., urban tree supply chains), and equity-focused planning through social media engagement. Geospatial methodologies consistently underpin her investigations into health-environment interactions and sustainable resource management.
She contributes to the Drachman Institute and community initiatives like 'Plan the Plan,' which applies crowdsourcing to advance social justice in Tucson's neighborhood planning processes.
