Dr. Shudong Yu is a Professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. His expertise spans Fluid-Structure Interaction, System Dynamics, and Chaos Theory, with applications in aerospace, automotive, and nuclear engineering systems.
Education:
- PhD (1995), University of Toronto
- MASc (1984), Northeastern University
- BEng (1982), Jiangxi University of Technology
Dr. Yu's research focuses on vibration mechanics and computational modeling. He has developed advanced methods for analyzing structural vibrations in aircraft, bridges, and CANDU nuclear fuel bundles. His work combines theoretical analysis, computer simulations, and experimental validation to enhance system durability and safety.
His publications highlight trends in nonlinear dynamics, finite element modeling, and fluid-structure coupling. Key contributions include vibration suppression techniques for nuclear reactors and dynamic modeling of multi-degree-of-freedom systems with viscoelastic constraints.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow, Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME)
- Associate Editor, Journal of Vibration Testing and System Dynamics
- Member, International Scientific Committee (FIV/FSI)
Dr. Yu leads the Vibration Research Facility and teaches graduate courses in mechanics and machine design, including MEC 626 Applied Finite Elements and MEC 613 Machine Design I.
