Shuanglin Hao is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Preclinical and Basic Research at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. His education includes a PhD from Asahikawa Medical College, Japan (2000), followed by post-doctoral training in Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (2004).
Dr. Hao’s research focuses on understanding the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms underlying chronic pain and opioid use disorder, with a particular emphasis on HIV-related neuropathic pain and morphine tolerance. His work integrates neuroscience, pharmacology, and molecular biology to explore therapeutic interventions in these areas.
- Research Highlights: Investigates spinal pathways, mitochondrial functions, and gene therapy approaches to address pain and addiction.
- Key Findings: Studies the role of Sirtuin 3, TNF receptor pathways, PGC-1α, and viral vector-based therapies in pain modulation and addiction.
His scientific achievements include awards such as the Travel Award from the International Narcotics Research Conference and the Young Investigator Travel Award from the American Pain Society. He has also been recognized with a Fellowship at the 12th World Congress of Anesthesiologists.
In professional activities, Dr. Hao serves as an editor for Translational Perioperative and Pain Medicine and Molecular Pain, and holds editorial review roles at Austin Journal of Neurological Disorders & Epilepsy. He actively reviews for journals like Anesthesia and Analgesia, BioMed Research International, and BMC Neurology, contributing to peer-review panels such as the Center for Scientific Review’s ZRGI AARR-K group.
