Professor Shoufeng Yang holds the Chair of Additive Manufacturing at the University of Southampton, within the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment and Department of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He specializes in multi-material additive manufacturing (MMAM), focusing on advanced techniques such as dry powder micro dispensing and functional gradient fabrication. His research integrates materials science, engineering, and biomedical applications.
Education: BSc and PhD from Tsinghua University (Beijing). Postdoctoral fellowships at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Career progression includes EPSRC Research Fellow, RCUK Academic Fellow, Lecturer, and Senior Lecturer at QMUL before moving to Southampton as Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and now Professor.
Research interests span metamaterials, combinatorial materials research, pharmaceutical powder printing, and tissue engineering scaffold fabrication. Funded by EPSRC, DSTL, Horizon 2020, and industry partners.
- Awarded prestigious Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition for MMAM innovations.
- Expertise in artificial neural networks (ANN) applied to materials property exploration.
- Developed dry powder dispensing technologies for 3D-printed functional gradients.
Grants and collaborations include major UK and EU research initiatives, emphasizing translational research across academia and industry.
