Dr. Shona Kallestrup is a Lecturer in Art History at the University of St Andrews, part of the School of Art History. She holds an MA from the Warburg Institute (London), and MA and PhD from St Andrews. Her research focuses on Central/East European art (19th–20th centuries, especially Romania) and 20th-century Scandinavian architecture/design. She led the ERC-funded Art Historiographies in Central and Eastern Europe project (2018–2021) and has held roles including Leverhulme Postdoctoral Fellow (Aberdeen) and Deputy Editor of Architectural History.

Research emphasizes transnational entanglements in art historiography, court art patronage, and gender studies. Recent publications center on Romanian artist Dora Hitz and Queen Carmen Sylva’s cultural networks. She has curated exhibitions such as Dora Hitz: Aus Franken nach Rumänien in die Welt (2024) and co-edited volumes on Nordic design circulation.
Grants/Awards include ERC Senior Research Fellowship (2018–2021) and Leverhulme Fellowship (2018–2021). Supervised PhD students focus on topics like 19th-century art historiography and Scandinavian design.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the Art Historiographies in Central and Eastern Europe research collective; collaborates with institutions like New Europe College (Bucharest) and the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.
