Shohei Koide

Shohei Koide is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and a key member of the Perlmutter Cancer Center. He leads the Koide Laboratory, a leading research group in synthetic protein science, based at the Smilow Research Center in New York City.

His research focuses on advancing protein engineering through synthetic approaches, particularly in designing monobodies, affinity clamps, and synthetic antibodies. These technologies are applied to cancer biology, structural biology, signal transduction, and drug discovery. His lab has made major breakthroughs in targeting oncogenic RAS mutants and developing novel biologics for cancer therapy.

Dr. Koide's recent publications highlight a strong trend in targeting RAS family proteins (KRAS, NRAS, HRAS) with high-specificity monobodies, understanding allosteric regulation in signaling pathways, and developing unified therapeutic approaches combining small molecules and immune therapy. His work frequently appears in top-tier journals such as Nature, Cell, and PNAS.

He has received significant recognition, including being elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors in 2022.

Dr. Koide mentors a large team of graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and research scientists. His lab has been consistently funded by prestigious agencies including the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Defense, and the Structural Genomics Consortium. The Koide Lab is also affiliated with several key research programs at NYU, including the Vilcek Institute and the Perlmutter Cancer Center.
