Shobhit Shakya is an Honorary Research Fellow at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) within The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, University College London, and a Research Fellow at the Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). His work explores administration through a social-anthropological lens, emphasizing humanistic dimensions of governance with a focus on non-Western perspectives, particularly in the Himalayan region.
His research centers on Buddhist governance principles, digitality, community engagements, and social-ritualisation, employing interdisciplinary frameworks that bridge social anthropology and public administration. He is actively involved in Newar community activism in Nepal, advocating for minority rights and ethno-linguistic inclusivity, reflecting his commitment to marginalized communities.
As Managing Editor of Halduskultuur – The Estonian Journal of Administrative Culture and Digital Governance, he advances discourse in administrative culture. His contributions include the John Templeton Foundation-funded Islamic Public Value project (2022–2025), highlighting his engagement with cross-cultural governance research and community-driven initiatives.
