Shiwen Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (2022–present). He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Irvine (2016) and a B.S. from Nanjing University, China (2009). His research focuses on Mathematical Physics, Spectral Theory, Dynamical Systems, Harmonic Analysis, and Partial Differential Equations. He has been a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Minnesota (2019–2022) and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Michigan State University (2016–2019).
**Education:**
- Ph.D., Mathematics, UC Irvine (2013–2016)
- B.S., Mathematics, Nanjing University (2005–2009)
**Research Interests:** Explores spectral properties of Schrödinger operators, quantum systems, and localization phenomena. Recent work includes studies on landscape theory, tight-binding Hamiltonians, and quasiperiodic systems. His contributions bridge functional analysis, dynamical systems, and mathematical physics.
**Awards:**
- Kovalevsky Outstanding PhD Thesis Award (2016)
- Euler Award (2014)
- Samsung Scholarship (2007)
**Grants:** Recipient of the NSF LEAPS-MPS Grant (DMS-2418611, 2024–2026).
**Teaching & Mentorship:** Advises undergraduate research projects at UMass Lowell and has taught courses in calculus, differential equations, and partial differential equations. Previously taught at the University of Minnesota and Michigan State University.
