Shiwei Zhang

Shiwei Zhang is a Senior Research Scientist/Group Leader at the Center for Computational Quantum Physics and Chancellor Professor of Physics at the College of William & Mary. His research focuses on advancing computational methods for solving fundamental problems in condensed matter and materials physics.

• Education: PhD in Physics (Cornell University, 1993)
• Prior Positions: Postdoctoral Research Associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory, NSF CISE Postdoctoral Fellow at Ohio State University

Zhang’s work centers on quantum Monte Carlo methods, with applications spanning condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry, ultra-cold atoms, and nuclear physics. He develops algorithms for many-electron systems and performs both materials-specific simulations and model-based studies of strongly correlated systems.
