Shirley Albano-Aluquin

Shirley Albano-Aluquin, MD is an Assistant Professor at the Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology. She practices full-time at the Penn State Health clinic in Middletown, PA.

Research interests focus on profiling inflammatory microenvironments in Giant Cell Arteritis and Neuropathy Subtypes in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. She explores telehealth applications for musculoskeletal examinations, including lumbar spine and foot evaluations.

Scientific awards include the Clinical Skills Faculty Award (2007), Jeffries Educational Mentorship Scholar (2014), and multiple Dean’s List recognitions for patient satisfaction (2010, 2012). She was also part of the 2024 Physician Assistant Education award recipients.

Mentorship spans medical students, internal medicine residents, and rheumatology/geriatrics fellows. Her educational initiatives include teaching chronic arthritis pain management and musculoskeletal examination skills, with participation in Penn State’s Clinician Scientist Faculty Mentoring Program (2018-2020) and Junior Faculty Development Program (2007-2008).
