Shirley Agostinho is a Professor in the School of Education at the University of Wollongong, within the Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. With over 25 years of expertise in educational technology and higher education, her research focuses on leveraging digital technologies to enhance learning, particularly in empowering teachers and students through self-regulated learning strategies. She has secured over $1.5M in grants and has supervised 13 doctoral completions, earning international recognition (h-index 33, 3500+ citations).
Her research interests include cognitive load theory, teacher design practices, and gesture-based learning. Notable projects include leading the ARC-funded investigation into professional learning in digitalized work contexts and contributing to the Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage, translating research into educational initiatives. She has held leadership roles, including Head of Research in the School of Education and Acting Head during the pandemic.
Her publications span educational technology, cognitive science, and pedagogy, with recent work exploring artistry in teaching, multimedia learning strategies, and gesture-based interfaces.
