Shireen Morris

Shireen Morris is an Associate Professor at Macquarie Law School and a member of the Ethics and Agency Research Centre. She specializes in constitutional law, Indigenous rights, free speech, and democratic reform. Prior to her current role, she was a McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellow at Melbourne Law School and worked at Cape York Institute as a senior adviser on Indigenous constitutional recognition. Morris holds a PhD from Monash University (2017), a Juris Doctor (2012), and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne (2002).

Her research focuses on constitutional reform, particularly the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the 2023 Voice referendum. She has authored influential books such as Broken Heart: A True History of the Voice Referendum (2024) and A First Nations Voice in the Australian Constitution (2020). Morris also engages in public discourse through media contributions and appearances on TV/radio, addressing issues like democratic decline, central bank independence, and social media's impact on democracy.

Her current research projects include the Radical Centre Reform Lab (2022–2023), exploring economic reforms for full employment. Morris advises students on topics like constitutional law, gambling reform, and truth in political advertising.

Morris is affiliated with the John Curtin Research Centre (Managing Committee) and Trinity College (Academic Fellow). Her work bridges academia and public policy, emphasizing equitable constitutional frameworks and democratic resilience.
